New Hampshire Legislature for HB192, a bill prohibiting fluoridation throughout the state.
February 11, 2019
A hearing has been scheduled at the New Hampshire Legislature for HB192, a bill prohibiting fluoridation throughout the state. The hearing will be at 2pm this Tuesday, February 12 in the Legislative Office Building (behind the state house) in room 305 (3rd floor) in front of the House Resources, Recreation and Development committee. A vote on the bill could come as early as next Tuesday.
A number of FAN contacts plan to attend and provide testimony, but we also need help from professionals around the U.S. to influence the committee. They've already received emails from New Hampshire residents and pros, and now we're expanding our call for emails and written testimony to experts from around the country. We know our opposition is doing the same.
We will also be doing the same for other states that have fluoridation legislation before them this session. So please save a draft of your email or letter and use it when we reach out to committees in Hawaii, Kentucky, New Jersey, and Connecticutt (and possibly others).
If you would like to submit written testimony, you can send it to stuart@fluoridealert.org and I will deliver it to the committee by hand. You can also email the committee using the following addresses:
Stuart@fluoridealert.org,
Henry.Noel@leg.state.nh.us,James.Horgan@leg.state.nh.us,
Make sure to start off with “I support ending fluoridation,” followed by your credentials. Please keep your emails polite and focused on the scientific and ethical arguments against fluoridation (see example talking points below).
When contacting the councilors, here are some points we suggest making:
-A 2017 U.S. Gov't funded study linked fluoride exposure in utero to lower IQ in kids.
--Three 2018 studies linking fluoridation to ADHD, hypothyroidism, and overexposure at optimal levels.
--According to the CDC's own researchers the dental fluorosis rate has increased from an already staggering 41% of adolescents to now 61%. Here is a study that discusses this 30% increase and concludes "The continued increase in fluorosis rates in the U.S. indicates that additional measures need to be implemented to reduce its prevalence."
-Fluoride chemicals have been shown to increase lead levels in drinking water.
-Over 100 animal experiments and 54 human studies link fluoride consumption to a decrease in IQ, with fluoride now labeled a developmental neurotoxicant.
-Another recent study has linked fluoridation to increases in ADHD.
-Another recent study has linked fluoridation to increases in hypothyroidism.
-Fluoride exposure coupled with iodine deficiency is linked to thyroid disease, report researchers in Environment International (December 2018). They report that this is the first human population-based examination of chronic low-level fluoride exposure on thyroid function that considers residents’ iodine status.
“I have grave concerns about the health effects of fluoride exposure,” said lead author Ashley Malin, “And not just from my study but the other studies that have come out in recent years,” (quoted from Environmental Health News).
--“Higher levels of fluoride exposure during pregnancy were associated with global measures of ADHD and more symptoms of inattention [in offspring],” researchers report in Environment International (December 2018).
“Our findings are consistent with a growing body of evidence suggesting that the growing fetal nervous system may be negatively affected by higher levels of fluoride exposure,” said Morteza Bashash, the study’s lead author and a researcher at University of Toronto’s School of Public Health. (NeuroscienceNews.com)
--Canadian pregnant women have double urine fluoride levels in fluoridated vs. non-fluoridated areas (Environ
"We found that fluoride in drinking water was the major source of exposure for pregnant women living in Canada," said Christine Till, an associate professor of Psychology in York's Faculty of Health and lead author on the study. (News Release from York University in Toronto)
